SME of the year

Celebrating the contribution of SMEs to the UK economy, this award recognises businesses with fewer than 249 employees who have delivered consistent growth whilst maintaining and sustaining their financial position during the last 2 years. They will have demonstrated innovative business practices which are delivered through an engaged workforce.

This award will go to the business that can show outstanding initiative, boldness and imagination in the enterprise, as well as sound management practices. Entrants will be expected to demonstrate a degree of commercial success that is exceptional for the size of the business.

The judges will be looking for evidence of:

• Innovation and leadership as well as a clear vision
• A sound business plan and Sales and Marketing strategy
• Strong leadership with the ability to drive the business forward
• Environmental awareness and a commitment to the community
• A Commitment to Staff development & Training
• All leading to a sustainable financial performance

Eligibility

• Based in Calderdale
• Meets the UK government definition of SMEs which encompasses micro (less than 10 employees and an annual turnover under €2 million), small (less than 50 employees and an annual turnover under €10 million) and medium-sized (less than 250 employees and an annual turnover under €50 million) businesses
• Positive Net Worth
• Profitable
• Can demonstrate how they have held their position or grown in the market place over the last 3 years
