August Event – Seasonal Displays

Greetings and a warm welcome to our Events Page.

Ordinarily BFC wouldn’t normally stage an August event, given that many people are taking their Summer holidays etc, however our August 11th hosts are no ordinary business and this event is one not to be missed!

A visit to Seasonal Displays, based at Brunswick Mill in Halifax, is both entertaining and inspiring and an opportunity to be a big kid for a couple of hours!

Please book your tickets early as space is limited.
We’ll meet at 5pm for a 5.30pm start until around 7pm.

Important Information: “Production finishes at 5pm please note there will be no production running when the factory tour is held.

We are delighted to announce that our February 2015 event will take place on Tuesday, February 17 at the Halifax Courier at their new offices in Dean Clough.

Please arrive from 5 pm for 5.30 pm start.

The Halifax Courier now has a new home in Halifax right at the heart of historic Dean Clough Mills. The paper has moved into The Fire Station, in the thriving, listed, mill complex – once home to the town’s huge Crossley Carpets Empire.

You are invited to join us for drinks and nibbles at The Halifax Courier. This is your opportunity to be one of the first to see the new set up at Dean Clough.

Helen will be letting us in on the future plans for The Courier, including the exciting events and business opportunities coming up this year. Helen will also be joined by the Editor of the Halifax Courier John Kenealy.

The Courier will give Business for Calderdale an outline of the newspaper’s plans for 2015. And the evening will be a chance for members to find out how the Courier team can help with your plans for the coming year and hopefully work together on some projects.

Speed Networking With Industry – Rastrick High School, Tuesday 20th January 2015

GENERAL INFO:

  • Nature of event: small group work, fast passed sessions with informal Q&A.
  • Focus: to allow learners to explore progression, skills and competencies across a range of industry sectors and job roles.

AIM: The aim of the event is to help young people understand more about the world of work and identify the pathways and opportunities that are available to them upon leaving education. Whist taking part students also get a valuable opportunity to ask key questions, identify vital skills sets and gain a unique insight in to a wide variety of job roles that they may never have considered.

INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL ROLE: When speaking to the students you should be sector focussed and be able to illustrate opportunities within your industry as well as being able to discuss your own personal progression and experiences within the industry to the present day.

Each session will be approximately 10 minutes in length and include a short informal introduction followed by a quick Q&A session that will focus on:

 the organisation you represent

 the role you have within the organisation

 the skills you use through your work

 benefits of working within the sector/for the company

 the route you have taken to get to your current position

Orangebox young people’s centre is a brand new state of the art building located in the heart of Halifax. Designed by young people, for young people, facilities include rooftop skate park, recording studio, bouldering tunnel, dedicated art room, rehearsal rooms, performance spaces, Mac suite and a cafe, alongside counselling and support services

Sam Avery, Comedian will be providing the entertainment for the evening.

 

You’re Hired! – The Apprenticeship Event

‘You’re Hired’  – The Apprentice Event,

a unique event for employers and potential apprentices. 

The event will be hosted at Calderdale College who were recently described by Ofsted as achieving ‘outstanding outcomes for apprenticeships’, by BBC Look North’s presenter Clare Frisby.

Why attend

Ensuring the correct skills are in place, both within our existing and future work force is vital to the economy of the region. One of the cornerstones of this is Apprenticeships. Apprentices help businesses cut costs, fill skills and increase retention rates. However, many employers shy away from the scheme due to popular misconceptions and myths, or simply a lack of information.

If you’re an employer who is thinking about, or has existing apprentices in your workforce, you’re invited to join us on October 7th.

Business for Calderdale’s November event is taking place on Tuesday 12th October and is being hosted by J & C Joel in Sowerby Bridge!

Set up by Halifax born and bred John Wheelwright in 1978 and now run by his son James, J&C Joel is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of flame retardant fabrics, drapery, flooring and stage machinery for the theatre, entertainment and live event industries.

J&C Joel manufacture anything from traditional theatre curtains, stage drapes, cyclorama canvases, stage backdrops, gauzes and perimeter curtains through to bespoke fabric items used in settings such as world famous car shows through to Olympic opening ceremonies.

J&C Joel also have a thriving Projects department who can design, manufacture, install and service anything from a simple track system through to multi venue, multi-use theatre and entertainment spaces.

They currently export in to over 80 countries worldwide from our HQ in Sowerby Bridge where all of our drapes are manufactured.  In addition, we have offices in Hong Kong, Macau, Dubai, South Africa and the Netherlands so it is safe to say they are a truly global company.

The format for the evening will be as follows:

5.00pm – 5.30pm – Arrival & Networking;

5.30pm – 5.45pm – Welcome and introduction to J&C Joel by the CEO and Sales Manager;

5.45pm – 6.15pm – Tour of the Mill

6.15pm – 6.30pm – Brief presentation about J & C Joel;
